We ate lunch here in November 2021.

Fried chicken and waffles and maple syrup
Cheeseburger spring roll with coleslaw
Basque cheesecake

What a huge let down this was. We came in so excited, but it only one short week the magic had faded. This was still a good meal, it just wasn’t the great meal that we expected.

The fried chicken was pretty good, but the waffles that came with it seemed like they came out of single plastic sleeves at a supermarket. They looked really interesting as they were fingers of waffle instead regular flat waffles, but they were doughy, thick, and flavourless. There wasn’t enough maple syrup, and it was just missing something, like creme fraiche or, we don’t know, just something.

The spring roll was really tasty. It was super cool that it was just like a cheeseburger, complete with pickles, beef mince, cheese, and mustard. However some of the details were a little sloppy. The coleslaw was naked (nobody wants to eat plain raw cabbage) and the spring roll wasn’t quite hot, it was only warmed through.

The cheesecake divided us, Business Andy really liked it, but The Fee-Rex thought it was too plain and eggy. Some people might say that you should expect that from a baked cheesecake, but those people liked the Basque cheesecake. And where was the yoghurt or cream?

All together disappointing, perhaps because they were right up the top, there’s only one way to go from there. We still want to go back because this place has such promise. Better luck next time.
