Mali Takeaway

Rating: 2

We ate lunch here in October 2026.

Beef lard na
Tofu choo chee stir fry

Mali is a little bit underground. Their name says Takeaway, their sign says Takeaway, and they are small, but the dozen Thai and Laotian folks enjoying a meal inside said Dine-in. We felt like we might have snuck into a diamond in the rough.

Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to this promise. The choo chee was closest. The sauce was flavourful, it was advertised as a one-chilli level of spice, which was apt. There was a bit much onion but the tofu was good, and overall it was a pleasant meal. The lard na was less successful. It had a gelatinous consistency (Google tells us this is due to the use of cornstarch) which was off-putting. The flavour was so-so, but aided by a little dish of sprinkle-your-own chilli. We did appreciate the prompt and friendly service, and the weird decorative Piglet eau de toilette by our table, however it was also pretty cold inside.
