We ate lunch here in October 2026.
Banana smoothie
Chai latte
Mexican chicken quesidilla with chips
Chicken and mushroom filo
Coconut slice
If we were marking on effort, Mint Cafe would get an A. Their wait staff were friendly, they seemed delighted to see us, they gave fair warning about a long wait (which didn’t eventuate), and they were upselling and making friendly recommendations where they could. In some ways, these were their undoing. Frankly, we regret taking their advice. We got talked into a Andre the giant worthy chai latte, it was beyond ridiculous with a mountain of whipped cream, caramel and cinnamon on top. In fairness, this mound was the best thing about this beverage. The latte itself was awful, it just tasted like warm slightly sweet milk. And there was soooooooo much of it.
The banana smoothie had been “finessed” within an inch of its life. We were given the option of cream or ice cream on top. Neither of these were needed, and while they were given as an either-or mandatory option, we suspect we were then charged extra for the privilege of fighting our way through a lump of low quality, icy ice cream. Did this smoothie contain a banana? We will never know. It definitely contained an absolutely foul banana syrup, and perhaps also a caramel syrup (also foul). It all came together to produce something you definitely didn’t want to drink, and it tasted nothing like banana, or even like fake banana, it just tasted weird.
None of the food was good. The best of it was the quesedilla, but even this had no Mexican spice profile, and a very bland salsa. They had at least not stinged out on the sour cream, which we appreciated. If anything, there was too much. The menu said it came with salad, but on ordering we were offered chips as an alternative. While we can’t imagine the salad would have been better, the chips weren’t great. They were slightly undercooked, and came with a very strange aioli that was more like a salad dressing.
The filo innards were bland, the creamy sauce was on the gelatinous side and paired with a different flavourless relish. The sweet treat was sweet, but it wasn’t a treat. We were offered cream or yoghurt on the side, but neither of these were a good pairing. This just tasted like sugar, with the odd pop of a raisin. Plus it was very hard to eat with the cake fork provided.
