Boulcott St Bistro

Rating: 3

We ate dinner here in September 2026.

Crumbed calamari
Crumbed lamb tongue  Kumara gnocchi
Moroccan lamb shank with couscous

We are pleased to see Boulcott St Bistro doing so well. After 35 years in business, it’s something to still be packed at early dining time. The calamari was well executed but a bit uninspired. The lambs tongue was a very pleasant surprise. The Fee-Rex was very nervous, in fact there was a minor kerfuffle when Business Andy blurted out his lamb tongue order, but the waitress very expertly massaged away the concerns and we’re glad she did. Firstly, and most importantly, you wouldn’t know it was a tongue (although they had made it tongue shaped). We’re not 100% sure how it was prepared, but the experience was more akin to eating a spicy crumbed sausage. As an aside, where the crumbed sausages at, world? Crumbed sausages are delicious, but when did you last see one? Bring them back, we say!

The lamb shank was well cooked and very tender, was a very large portion, and had a lovely jus that was great with the couscous. Given that it was called Moroccan, we would expect the meat itself to be a bit more interesting in flavour profile, but it was still very good overall. The gnocchi was lovely. All of the ingredients, even the kale, sang, and the leftover sauce was fantastic with the complimentary bread.
