The Workshop

Rating: 1

We ate lunch here in September 2026.

Pulled pork and pickle toastie
Ham, cheese, aioli, and cranberry toastie

Outside the workshop they advertise three things. Burgers. Toasties. Bourbon. Sounds like lunch, in we go. Well, you can forget the burgers for a start, there are no burgers on the limited lunch menu. You can almost forget the toasties. The woman at the bar was livid that we were ordering food. She indicated we could only have the top half of the menu, eliminating the salad and the macaroni cheese. That shrinks our offerings to just the four toasties, all of which were pork-based. Okay, we’ll play your game. Two toasties please, and two surprisingly expensive drinks.

The wait was long. We suspect they hadn’t prepared to run the kitchen at all that shift, she probably had to go dig around in the freezer to find the bread. When the toasties came out, with ample serviettes, they were two on one plate. What’s that about? Are you saving on dishes? Is this an aesthetic choice? If you’re trying to reduce the cleanup you’re living in a false economy, as two people sharing one plate = dropped crumbs and a potential sauce disaster.

The pulled pork toastie was crazy saucy, it had gotten soggy in places and would have been better enjoyed with a knife and fork (you’ll be shocked to hear there was no cutlery). Tell you what though, we can’t complain about the flavour. Phenomenal, and talk about unexpected. The ham toastie was extremely pedestrian. We weren’t even sure we could taste the cranberry at all.
