When is a banana smoothie not a banana smoothie? When it’s a banana milkshake. We’ve said it before, but clearly it bears repeating - if there is no real banana in your smoothie, it is a milkshake. Today’s beverage was cold, sweet, banana-ey, by all accounts a decent banana milkshake, but a smoothie it was not, no Sir. And they have been penalised accordingly. But this was hardly their only foible.

The pie innards were genuinely boring. Perhaps this is what the everyman wants from a butter chicken pie, but it could at least afford to taste like something. Anything. This was a real shame because the pie crust was sensational, light, flaky, just fantastic. There’s a chance that another pie out of this cabinet could have dragged their overall score up, kicking and screaming, into the good side of average.

The croissant was overall forgettable, they had absolutely squashed it flat to toast it, which made it look a bit funny, but that was the most notable thing about it. And the tartlet was inoffensive but dull. We also look sceptically at any establishment that insists on glad wrapping every single item in their cabinet individually. You just can’t help but wonder how long they have been sitting there when they are all wrapped for maximum freshness and longevity.
