We ate dinner here in July 2026.
Chef’s menu
Congratulations, Highwater Eatery, it’s a pretty big deal to be a four. We award them quite rarely. And it’s really satisfying to go and independently give a four to somewhere that perhaps feels a bit hard done by to not catch a Michelin star recently. Does this mean that actually we’re better reviewers than the fat tire man? We’ll leave the answer of that question up to you.
We’ve said this before, but we’ll say it again. The mark of a great dish is serving you something that you think you don’t like, and showing you how it can be delicious. Neither of us likes mussels, but the mussel emulsion that came with the karaage chicken was outstanding. And that’s not to say that the chicken itself wasn’t incredible too, because it was, but this whole dish came together to become something greater than the sum of its parts. This was the stand out dish of the night, and the field was competitive. We only sampled part of the menu, but there were no fails, and there was plenty more on the menu that sounded similarly good.
And without gushing too much, the dessert was fantastic too. It was a cold apple crumble. If you thought this ws just an apple crumble that was served room temperature, as we did, you’d be wrong. It had been transformed into a whipped, cold sensation that was vanilla-y and delicious. We were entranced.
We could wax lyrical about this meal for a while, but we’ll distill it down. Yum yum yum, try Highwater.
Bookings recommended.
P.S. Extra special shout out to the dude who stuffed his nose into the bucket of cutlery and gave it a giant whiff while we were watching. We still don’t know what this was about, but we have speculated for hours and can only assume it was related to quality control somehow.
