The Beijing Restaurant

Rating: 2

We ate lunch here in June 2026.

Orange beef fried rice
Fried chicken
Fried dumplings

After something off a revamp, there’s some new additions to the menu at the Beijing, some new furniture, and a bit of a new vibe. We are long time Beijing patrons, with it being in our takeaway rotation. It made us nervous when we saw the revamp, which included the edition of a bunch of non-Chinese fried options (fried chicken and fish and chip shop options like nuggets and sausages). Is the Beijing struggling? We suggest the new menu, and the fact that they are generally not very busy when we get our takeaway, implies that they are.

We’re not helping much by not giving them a glowing review, but we can only review what arrived in front of us, and what arrived in front of us had some issues. The dumplings were super oily, were strangely floppy, and didn’t taste particularly good. The fried rice was only average, and the orange beef, while tasty and fresh, was perplexingly piled to one side instead of worked through it. It was like two separate meals and the stressful task of mixing ratios fell to us, the unsuspecting diners. And the fried chicken was just not quite good enough either, its extremities were borderline burnt, and there wasn’t nearly enough of the admittedly nice sweet soy sauce.
