Tirohana Estate

Rating: 3

We ate dinner here in May 2026.

Pear, walnut and blue cheese tart
Zucchini fritters
Lamb pot pie with mash and roast vegetables
Stuffed chicken breast with roast vegetables
Pumpkin bread and butter pudding with caramel sauce and ice cream
White chocolate berry cheesecake

If you’re looking for a fancy dining experience on a budget, look no further than Tirohana Estate. Shout out to the $72pp dinner which was three generously sized courses, plus an opening drink, amous bouche and petit fours. Definitely good value, and the food wasn’t bad at all. Nor was it perfect - the tart wasn’t very flavourful, the lamb in the pie was chewy and there were some corners of the chicken breast that were laughably dry. But then again the zucchini fritters were fun, the flavour of both mains very enjoyable, and that bread and butter pudding was downright delicious.

Tirohana Estate had friendly, genuine and attentive service. In an unusual move, the waitress read us basically the whole menu. We appreciate when a server points out menu areas of interest or importance e.g. the fish of the day is gurnard, the lamb is meant to be shared for two, we are out of the ratatouille. But this recital went on and on with no apparent point. We were also served two of the worst espresso martinis we have had in a long time. We’re pretty sure it wasn’t shaken, it had no head on it which made the three garnish coffee beans look very silly, it certainly had no actual espresso in it and I’m not sure it even had cold press. I’d wager we were looking at way too much kahlua, some vodka and a bit of simple syrup, swirled around then plonked into a cheap looking over-fat stemmed martini glass. That’s a no from us, just stick to the wine.
