Quesadilla with chips

King Cafe is apparently a “Filipino-Kiwi Kitchen”, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it to look at the menu. There were several Mexican dishes, a bunch of fried basics (think tenders, loaded fries etc), spaghetti, and what they bragged was a very messy cheeseburger. Also, and forgive our lack of culture here, we hadn’t realised that tiny frozen mixed veg was such a Filipino staple. We saw a meal coming out with an absolute mountain on the stuff on the side of the plate, which caused us to be very wary in our ordering.

The quesadilla was passable. They hadn’t described what was in the quesadilla, simply labelling it “quesadilla” and allowing one’s imagination to wander. Turns out it was chicken, with a tomato-BBQ-esque sauce, cheese, and of course some frozen mixed veg, although thankfully not much, you wouldn’t have known it was there if you couldn’t see the peas randomly rolling out of it. The accompanying fries were pretty good, kudos on the chicken salt, and they were helpful for mopping up all the quesadilla innards that spilled everywhere.

The pork dish was, per the menu description, spicy, although not unpleasantly so. Actually, the flavour was quite nice. There was thankfully no frozen mixed veg, but the pork was of a very poor quality. The prawn crackers were a welcome addition, and there was a side salad that had a reasonable dressing. All in all, reasonable.
