We ate dinner here in November 2024.
Butter chicken with rice and paneer kulcha
Kashmiri malai kofta with rice and garlic naan
We aren’t in the business of demoting restaurants. We want everybody to succeed, and we go into each experience with the hope of a 4. However, if we revisit you and your standards have slipped, you will be demoted.
First, a compliment. Indian Alley has clearly read our previous review, as they no longer charge extra for rice. Thank God. However, perhaps our previous review made them feel overconfident, because our curries this time were not as good as our previous ones.
Both were too sweet. The butter chicken had a real food court vibe to it. While to an extent there is a pleasing familiarity and nostalgia to that flavour, the truth is it’s not a mark of a good curry. Shout out to the meat quality though, which was good again. The koftas displeased us again. They were homogenous balls of mashed something, with no particular flavour and no interesting bits.
The paneer kulcha was a waste of time. Truth is, paneer doesn’t have enough flavour to carry a naan, especially once you dip it in curry, you might as well not bother. The garlic naan was pretty good though.
We also revisted the cocktail menu. The fart-tail (see review below for context) was still there, but we avoided it carefully. Not carefully enough apparently. We ordered the talli aam pana, which apparently contains vodka, mango syrup, soda water, mint and ‘secret spices’. Turns out the ‘secret spices’ is the fart powder from earlier! Frickin disaster. Fortunately it was at least more diluted than last time, but it was still unpleasant. We wouldn’t try any more of their cocktails now, we’re just too scared.
