Lemongrass & tofu ramen

Orient is an importer and distributor of Asian ceramics. If you went by their website, you’d think that’s all they do. But they also run a side hustle of a small cafe. It’s only 5 tables nestled into their store, so cross your fingers you get a seat. Places jamming in an eatery as an added extra isn’t always a good thing, as we experienced just last night. But the food at Orient was so good, they could do it as their sole venture.

The roast vegetable wrap was the true hero. We are still reeling. The vegetables were roasted to perfection, dressed in a super tasty sauce and had plenty of seeds for crunch. Then the wrap, oh, the wrap. Begone, bland flatbread. This wrap was a pan fried roti and it was spectacular. Despite being reheated from the cabinet you’d swear it was made fresh. Excellent.

The ramen was also strong, especially for a vegan offering. In our experience, it’s hard to do a good vegetarian ramen, let alone a vegan one. It was lovely and hearty with great broth. And both meals were pretty good value for money, especially for a central city location.
