Back at Gorilla Burger for the second time. The location has changed - last time we were at the now defunct Island Bay store, this time we were on Leeds Street. And while the location has changed, we had hoped for the same tasty burgers. But it simply wasn’t to be.
Well, half to be. The Harambe burger was pretty good, juicy without being too drippy and it held together well, just classic beef pickles cheese nom nom. The snowflake was not good at all. The identifiable features were chicken, coleslaw and a spicy sauce. But the spice was all you could taste, there were hard dry bits of fried chicken and this things was so wet with sauce that it was like it had been swimming. We’re not kidding, half the bun was completely saturated.
Back to the positives, we were serious fans of the onion rings. More specifically, the onion rings sauce. It was cheesy with pickles and onion and we couldn’t get enough. Unfortunately they had buried it at the side and the bottom of the container so when you finished you realised there was actually tonnes of hidden sauce left and you grieved for the barely sauced rings you had eaten a few minutes earlier. Fortunately the rings themselves were good too, nice big bits of actual onion.
The cauliflower was some of the worst we’ve had. It was non battered, which can be fine, but these had no flavour and were so overdone they kept falling apart. If you thought the avocado mayo sauce would help you were wrong. There was plenty of it but it tasted like nothing.
