Iced coffee with condensed milk
Perhaps the best thing that the French have ever done was introduce coffee to Vietnam. We loved the iced coffee, it was deliciously coffee-ey, which was balanced out nicely by the condensed milk.
We expected a bit more beef to be in the curry, which was good otherwise. It was a very delicate and interesting flavour, and the vegetables were fine, but where was the beef? We only found about three or four small pieces in there. To be fair, the meat is often the worst part of a curry, so it’s not like we were really upset, it just wasn’t quite what we expected.
Perhaps they blew their beef budget on the lemongrass beef dish, which was essentially a large pile of slightly sus beef, with salad and rice on the side. The beef was dry fried, was perhaps a bit overdone, and was definitely a bit gristly. The salad’s dressing was in a separate bowl, a nice touch.
