Cafe Cuba has been one of the most popular cafes in Palmerston North for the past 20 years. They have a diverse menu, speedy service and a reputation for being reliably good. In the Fee-Rex’s expert opinion, it was home to the best smoothie in Palmerston North. We say was as unfortunately the smoothie game has slipped a bit. Don’t get us wrong, they’re still good, but they are no longer great. The passionfruit smoothie used to be tangy and creamy, really cool and thick with honey down the sides. Today’s passionfruit smoothie was almost too tangy, much less creamy with more of a juice consistency. The banana smoothie was perfectly acceptable, but lacked in va va voom.

The campfire smash, which is egg, potato, onion, spinach all cooked up together with a piece of ciabatta, was again good but not great. The tacos were disappointing, plain and thoughtless. They seemed like the kind of tacos you would make and home, eat then go “well, at least I’m not hungry anymore but I won’t make that again.”
