The Daily Grind

We ate lunch here in October 2021.

Beef burger with chips
Bruschetta
Caramel and chocolate slice
Banana smoothie

Let’s start with the positives. The bruschetta was good, maybe a bit much pesto but it fresh, well put together, and we would happily eat this again. The same cannot be said for anything else that we ordered. The banana smoothie came out promptly and was a good temperature, however it was too milky, it didn’t taste much like banana, or really anything else except milk.

There was a lengthy wait for the cooked food. Given that we were the only people in the joint, a 25 minute wait just doesn’t make any sense. At one point we thought we could smell something burning, so there might have been a do-over. When the food did finally arrive, we could immediately tell that there was something wrong with the burger. The patty was almost cylindrical, the buns were squashed flat and charred, and the whole thing looked like it was ready to fall over. Why do people do this? You want the meat to cover the whole bun, you don’t want a small sad dehydrated ball in the middle. The patty’s thickness also meant it probably took at least 20 minutes to cook, which will also be why it came out so dry. It was a shame that the patty and buns were so bad as the burger had some nice components like the beetroot relish and caramelised onion.

We had saved the slice till last, it looked really good. What a disappointment. The base was about twice as thick as it should have been, and was overpoweringly bitter and dry. The caramel was good, but in these ratios it just couldn’t touch the sides.
