Sony Cafe

Rating: 3

We ate lunch here in September 2021.

Steak, cheese, and mushroom pie
Eggs benedict with bacon

A lot of places like this aren’t very good, Sony Cafe doesn’t break the mould, they just do what all those similar cafes should be doing.

The pie had a nice flaky pastry, it was not soggy at all, and the chunks of steak were tender and not full of gristle although they were perhaps a bit large. The eggs were well poached, and they had drained them before putting the eggs on the nicely toasted muffins. The bacon was well cooked and there was plenty of it, and everything was covered in a generous splash of acceptable hollandaise sauce.

Those other cafes like this, where they have the cabinets and the little menu for cooked items are often pretty average. It’s pretty easy to just exist and make average food, people will come just because it’s an easy and cheap lunch. So it’s really nice to see Sony Cafe put in the effort to make good food, and given how busy it was in there, we clearly weren’t the only people who had noticed.
