Indian Summer

Rating: 2

We ate dinner here in September 2021.

Shahi paneer with rice and plain naan
Lamb rajasthani with rice and cheese naan

The Fee-Rex has long held a conspiracy theory that multiple dishes on a typical Indian menu are actually the same thing. Indian Summer deepened this conspiracy. Tonight we ordered a shahi paneer, described as “cottage cheese cooked in rich cashew nut gravy and crushed almond.” Sounds a bit like a korma, we thought. When it arrived at our table the waitress literally called it a korma. We knew it!! And it was a pale, bland korma at that. Similarly, Business Andy ordered a lamb rajasthani, descibed as “speciality of Rajsthan this unique beef or lamb dish cooked in chef’s special sauce.” Chef’s special sauce my left nut. Unique my right nut. It was clearly a blend of Maggi tomato soup, some butter chicken, and sugar. We had the same exact dish at Indian2nite where it was called a makhani. The plain naan was pretty good, but the cheese naan was a nightmare. Half of it didn’t even have any cheese at all, the other half had way too much, and it was mozzarella to boot.
