Butter naan

Aside from the excellent mock kitchen for children set up in the play area, Indian Flavours doesn’t do anything to raise its head above the crowd. They did manage to do a few things that dragged them down though. We ordered a plain naan, so were surprised when the world’s oiliest butter naan arrived. No exaggeration, there was a literal puddle of butter under the basket when it was taken away. The butter naan had somehow also delaminated into two layers which was bizarre. At least the garlic naan held together, but it too was extremely oily. The curries were inoffensive but bland. The dhaniya adraki paneer had a nice ginger flavour, but not much else going on. The malai kofta was even more plain, apart from the two landmine-like sultanas that provided surprise flavour explosions. The kofta balls were the lowlight; doughy and flavourless. We did at least enjoy the greatest hits of Kishore Kumar wailing in the background. Perhaps the rest of Palmerston North aren’t the Kishore fans that we are, as we were the only diners there on a Friday night.
